This is a rare opportunity for a hands-on, commercially astute finance leader to build the finance function from the ground up, implement robust processes, and act as a true business partner to the Managing Director and US stakeholders.
The Role
As Financial Controller, you will take full ownership of the UK finance function, initially as a standalone role, with responsibility for designing and embedding scalable processes to support significant growth and future acquisitions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conducting a full review of the end-to-end finance process, from purchase to sale through to reporting, and presenting findings and recommendations to the Managing Director.
- Designing and implementing robust financial controls, processes, and reporting frameworks.
- Acting as the primary finance partner to the MD, providing insight beyond the numbers to help manage and grow the business.
- Developing monthly management reporting packs for the US ownership group, including variance analysis and performance commentary.
- Monitoring financial performance, cash flow, and working capital, including cash collection and expense management.
- Owning the month-end close process and ensuring timely, accurate financial information.
- Managing statutory, tax, and audit requirements in conjunction with external accountants (collating information and acting as key point of contact for the group).
- Supporting KPI development, including sales pipeline analysis, data metrics, and operational performance indicators.
Role Requirements:
- Qualified Accountant (CIMA / ACCA / ACA).
- Proven experience as a Financial Controller or Senior Finance Manager within an SME or scaling business.
- A track record of building or transforming a finance function, ideally as the first or early finance hire.
- Strong commercial mindset - experience partnering with leadership to influence decisions, not just report numbers.
- Experience in distribution, manufacturing, or product-based businesses (desirable).
- Confidence managing ambiguity and change in a fast-growing, acquisitive environment.
